For the first time in several years, all sunspots have disappeared on the Sun

A rare phenomenon has been recorded on the visible side of the Sun — for the first time in several years, sunspots have completely vanished from the star’s surface. This situation has attracted the attention not only of specialists but also of federal media.

In a segment by Channel One, representatives from Moscow University discussed how this phenomenon aligns with the norm and what processes are currently unfolding in our stellar system. Expert assessments were provided by Aydar Sadykov, a researcher at the Laboratory of Radiation Monitoring at the Skobeltsyn Institute of Nuclear Physics, Lomonosov Moscow State University, and Leonid Ledentsov, Acting Head of the Solar Physics Department at the Sternberg Astronomical Institute, Lomonosov Moscow State University.

Scientists explained that the current state of the star is linked to the peculiarities of the solar activity cycle. Such periods of “calm” provide valuable material for observations, allowing for a better understanding of the mechanisms behind the Sun’s internal dynamics and its influence on near-Earth space.
